ICT and e-Knowledge for the Developing World
In the developing world, digital technologies have the potential to transform lives. Mimas, with RCUK China and other Chinese and UK partners, is hosting an international workshop to tackle these issues.
This September, in Shanghai, China, academics will come together for ICT and e-Knowledge for the Developing World to explore the impact, benefits and challenges of digital technologies – and to discuss how they can create better lives.
A simpler way to analyse usage
Libraries spend millions on electronic journal licences every year, but it has never been easy to gather statistics about how these resources are used.
We're working with JISC Collections, Evidence Base and Cranfield University to develop the Journal Usage Statistics Portal (JUSP), a new project that will provide libraries – and librarians – with a simpler way of analysing the usage and impact of their e-journal subscriptions.

Sorting out the Smiths
Names identify us, but not always very effectively. For example, our staff list has seven duplicated forenames for c. 60 individuals. Adding surnames avoids duplication – but not in the wider world. There are 333 people in the USA named 'Keith Cole'.

The key to developing easy-to-use applications is to listen to the people that use them. As technology and users change, Mimas is responding by enhancing our services – and to do this, we need to answer one major question: "What do our users want?"

ESDS International provides real-world economic data for a wide range of researchers, analysts and decision-makers. Today, this data is also being used in learning and teaching, bringing considerable benefits to students, teachers and society as a whole.
