More about our skills and expertise in technological development, information management, user support, training, project management and applied research
-
Technological development
We find new ways to help people interact with information. Our developers use a range of programming and application development languages, and understand what's expected of our services.
We work hard to meet the changing needs of technical research projects, carrying out our own research and exploration, as we innovate to tackle the challenges of information discovery.
-
Information and data management
Our information professionals are experts in:
- the development of learning and research technologies
- the collation and preservation of primary data
- library and information sciences
- geospatial data and visualisation technologies
- the provision of cultural heritage and historical resources
We understand the international standards for data and metadata, and the challenges of interoperability and data exchange in the information world. We also have a strong understanding of the various communities we serve, and appreciate how they use the content for their specific needs.
-
Supporting users in education and research
People use our services in a variety of contexts, and have different levels of technological knowledge. For over 15 years, we have provided them with quality support – through services such as telephone and online helpdesk facilities, and online and face-to-face training.
Also, many of us at Mimas have backgrounds in academic research and teaching, so we have a vital understanding of the unique needs of our audiences.
-
Training and facilitation
We run workshops, seminars and training programmes – for end users such as researchers and students, and for information professionals adopting our services for their own communities.
We are also highly-skilled facilitators, helping resolve complex stakeholder communications and decision-making, where consensus is challenging but critical.
-
Managing complex projects, services and programmes
These include multi-partner initiatives and working to rigorous quality assurance standards. From simply providing reliable services, to developing collaborative bids and undertaking research and development projects, our proven track record means we are trusted among the UK research and education sectors to provide effective management of services, projects and teams.
-
Applied research
We aim to solve the practical problems of the digital information world, engaging in research and applying this to particular challenges. This often involves creating new applications, systems, and approaches to improve people's experiences.
As we develop new tools and encounter new challenges, it's important for us to share our findings with the broader community, discussing the work we do and its implications in the broader context of online information.
