• Commitment to our users

We are committed to developing the technology to help users carry out their learning, research or teaching in as effective and rewarding a way as possible.

This is why our experts understand the distinct requirements of the communities we serve – and show this understanding by creating useable and responsive systems, and providing the support people need to use those systems to their maximum effect.

We're also committed to maintaining the quality and integrity of these services for our users. This takes priority over commercial concerns, and we don't develop technology for its own sake.

  • Technological experimentation and innovation

Involvement in research enables us to experiment and push the boundaries of our technological knowledge, as we tackle the technical challenges that can prevent people from interacting effectively with information.

Our developers regularly have to deal with the big issues facing the technology community today, such as:

    • semantic search
    • automated metadata generation
    • opening up and linking data
    • interoperability
    • personalisation and adaptive systems

We are consistently involved in work that requires rapid innovation and development. Some of this is for stand-alone research projects, while other investigations lead us to developing and enhancing our core user services.

  • Engaging with our stakeholders and peers

We see ourselves as part of a broader collective, all striving towards the same common goal: to make information findable and useful, and to further the world's knowledge.

To work effectively, we must engage with this community, creating and maintaining dialogue wherever possible.

This collective includes commercial and public sector groups, and we work closely with them in the UK and internationally.

We regularly join forces to offer new, high-value applications to users, to conduct applied technology research, and to debate the challenges of the rapidly evolving information landscape.

  • Investing in our people

We see Mimas primarily as an organisation of highly-skilled experts, collectively committed to the mission of powering world-class research and teaching.

These experts are our greatest assets – and we strive to create an organisational culture that gives priority to personal and professional development, and promotes collaborative learning and knowledge sharing.

While a great deal of what we do centres on managing and providing services, our research and development work also requires staff who are open to change, always learning, adapting, and communicating with the broader community.

We aim to ensure that all our people find the opportunities they need here at Mimas.
